It was the waning days of the 1998 baseball season and Mark McGwire had just hit his 64th home run to pull ahead of Sammy Sosa. The following morning a letter to the editor appeared in the Baltimore Sun from a writer that stated simply:
"Josh Gibson of the Negro Baseball Leagues hit 84 home runs in one season. Why is he forgotten in all the hoopla over Mark McGwire?"Forgotten? How could Josh Gibson be forgotten when very few knew who he was to begin with.
